For the first step is Download Custom rom

The new Motorola Moto X Style is a great Lollipop based device, which of course will be soon updated with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. But, until then you can test the benefits of an unlocked Android system, as you have all the necessarily ingredients for tweaking your device. Thus, if you really want to test the performances of your X Style, without dealing with different factory, carrier and default restrictions, don’t hesitate and follow this tutorial for learning how to easily root your phone.
The root operation will imply in flashing the latest version of SuperSU, which of course, is now compatible with the Motorola Moto X Style and with the stock Lollipop firmware that is pre loaded on this device. Therefore, now you can finally unlock your device and test how it can run on full power. Of course, you can also consider in applying further procedures as after gaining root access you will be able to customize, optimize and personalize your new X Style by your own taste
However do note that on a rooted system you won’t be able to receive new OTAs. So, if you decide to complete this step by step guide don’t expect to embrace the Android 6.0 Marshmallow notification – don’t worry though, you will be able to install the official update (when it will be eventually released) manually, through a dedicated flashing tool.
On the other hand, remember that on a rooted Motorola Moto X Style you can install custom ROMs. And since the Android 6.0 has been already made available for developers, we will soon have compatible Marshmallow based custom ROMs for your X Style, thus you might be able to experience the latest Android release before Motorola actually pushes out the first OTAs.
And that’s not all; once root access is enabled you can finally bump the speeds on your X Style and customize the in built features, apps and capabilities. Basically, starting from now, you can improve the general performances, change and optimize the Android UI, upgrade the battery life and experience extra features that cannot be found on the default Lollipop system, everything right on your own Motorola Moto X Style.
Now, getting rooted is in fact the last unlocking step to make for your Moto X Style. As you might know, completing this tutorial is possible only if you ensure other operations first. In that respect, before doing anything else unlock the bootloader of your device and then install TWRP recovery on your X Style. The unlocked bootloader will remove start-up restrictions and will provide a small use access over in built settings while the custom recovery image will establish a proper link between you and your phone’s Android system. Finally, the same custom recovery environment will be used on the SuperSU flashing process.
Don’t forget that all these operations, including the root one, are unofficial and shouldn’t be related with Motorola or with Google. All the unlock exploits are developed by third paty devs (we should thank Chainfire, Team Win Recovery and xda-developers for these procedures) so you will lose your phone’s warranty if you choose to tweak your smartphone. So, bottom line, from now on taking your X Style back to service will imply in paying for the technical assistance. That’s why, if you will experience software related issues, the best will be to learn how to fix them by yourself – in that matter, we have a dedicated tutorial that might help you.
As a precaution measure backup your Moto X Style before ensuring root access. It is unlikely to lose something while flashing the SuperSU root exploit, but when it comes to your personal data, info and accounts you can never be too sure. The backup should be completed by default as it is an easy to apply procedure since you can use various dedicated and free distributed apps from Google Play, a computer or a dedicated cloud storage software. The best is that through these backup tools you can easily save contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos, audio files, IMEI / NVRAM, internet settings, and since a custom recovery image is installed you can also make a Nandroid backup for saving the current ROM that powers your device.
The root exploit will have to be downloaded on a computer first, so make sure you can use such a device. A good idea might be to temporarily turn off security protection before resuming the mentioned download process as apps like antivirus might interfere with your work. Also, a good idea is to enable USB debugging on your phone; you can do so by accessing Developer Option and by checking the USB debugging field (Developer Options can be checked by accessing “menu – settings – about phone” and by taping several times on Built Number).
Don’t root your phone unless you first check the battery status. There should be at least 50% power left, or else your device might get turned off in the middle of the unlock operation. If that happens, you can end up in bricking your Motorola Moto X Style.

How to Easily Root Motorola Moto X Style with SuperSU

  1. As mentioned before, first download the SuperSU package on your computer; thus, access this page.
  2. Place the file on desktop but don’t unzip it.
  3. Next, establish a connection between your smartphone and your computer – use the USB cord in order to do so.
  4. Transfer the downloaded file on your phone and then remove the USB connection.
  5. Turn off your android device, wait a few moments and then enter your X Style in recovery mode.
  6. From recovery, tap on Install and pick the SuperSU root exploit.
  7. Resume the flashing process and when done, from main menu of recovery select Reboot.
  8. If a boot loop is issued, go back to recovery and make a hard reset and clear cache – select “wipe data factory reset”, “wipe cache partition” and “wipe dalvik cache”.
Good job; you managed to root your Motorola Moto X Style. Since a custom recovery image is already running on your phone, maybe it’s time to experience a custom ROM firmware. If you are considering in completing such a custom update procedure, don’t hesitate and stay close as we will show you how to do that through a dedicated step by step guide.
